When summer is in full swing, the heat can start to make you uncomfortable. If your face is hot and sweaty, a great trick is to have a bottle of DIY facial spray in the refrigerator.
Whip it out and give yourself a little mist. The relief is instant and when you’ve made it with your favorite natural ingredients, it will smell great too.
Regular water is OK to use as a face spray if you don’t have any makeup on. But it isn’t nearly as refreshing as a mix with some extra soothing ingredients.
A homemade facial spray, with natural ingredients is the way to go. You can use a fine mist spray bottle, add your favorite combination and it’s done.
It’s also a good idea to have a couple of different recipes made up. That way you can take one with you when you’re out and about.
Before we get onto the recipes, let’s take a quick look at how to make a DIY face spray.
How To Make A DIY Face Spray
Making a homemade face spray only requires 3 things and it is likely you already have them on hand. Here is what you need.
1. Fine mist spray bottle
You can recycle old bottles or buy them brand new. Spray bottles can come in a variety of materials and colors.
If you do use an old bottle, make sure to clean it thoroughly and dry it well before using.
2. Distilled or purified water
3. Active ingredients
There are so many options here, depending on the recipe. Choose the best quality you can afford and feel free to experiment. Each ingredient offers different properties so choose what is most appropriate for your needs.
There is usually no hard and fast rule about the quantities when it comes to face sprays. The main ingredient is water, either on its own or water that has been steeped with tea, dried flowers or herbs. Sometimes a floral water is used to replace pure water.
Add the water and chosen ingredients to your spray bottle and shake well to combine. And make sure to shake it well before each use. This will ensure that the ingredients are well combined on application.
Now let’s take a look at some of my favorite DIY face spray recipes for you to make at home and try.
Aloe Vera and Essential Oils Face Spray
When you are misting your face in summer it is often to soothe hot and red skin. Particularly if you have been in the sun for too long.
This facial spray is the perfect choice if you have had a bit too much sun. It is cooling, refreshing and the aloe vera will help soothe your skin.
For this face mist, use aloe vera gel, distilled water, witch hazel, and essential oils. Use soothing oils like tea tree and lavender. Or go with something that helps burning skin, like peppermint or frankincense.
Rose Water Face Spray
Rose water facial spray is perfect to use at any time. Use it on burning summer skin, or just when you want a little soothing mist on your face. It smells divine!
To make the spray, use rose water instead of regular distilled water. You can buy rose water or make your own – it’s actually quite easy. Here’s a video showing you how.
Rose water can be used on its own in the spray. But the addition of some essential oils like geranium or rose will make it smell even better, and further soothe your skin.
Lavender and Mint Face Spray
This is a really great combination for a summer face mist. The mint is cooling and fresh, while the lavender will soothe your skin.
Whether you have a light sunburn, rosacea that is flaring up, or hot skin from laying out on the beach all day, you will love this face spray.
Use distilled or purified water with some lavender oil, peppermint oil and cucumber seed oil.
The 3 combinations above are just a starting point and are perfect for summer. Try different ingredients to come up with some DIY face spray mists that work for you all year round.
